Jump Rope Already Counts as Intense Exercise for Me

During the seven-day National Day holiday, my daughter’s only after-school class was still boldly scheduled for October 1 through 3. There wasn’t much anyone could do about it. For a middle schooler, there’s basically no time to go to after-school classes on weekdays anyway, so schools can only take the risk of putting them on holidays and weekends. Honestly, I really felt like reporting them.

The forecast says it’s going to start raining again on the 4th. Is Zhengzhou about to turn into the south of the Yangtze River? And those developers will once again have a reason not to do outdoor work. These last couple of days have been unbearably muggy too, with temperatures reaching 32°C. If Lao Gao saw this, he’d probably say I was being melodramatic. But then I think about how hot it is over there at 37°C, and suddenly it doesn’t feel quite so bad.

I was busy on the 1st and 2nd, and on the 3rd nobody had made an appointment, so Lao Liu got to slack off a bit and sleep in. After waking up, he took the family out for a walk. Since my daughter still had class in the afternoon, we couldn’t go too far, so we brought a jump rope and a badminton racket and found a spot nearby. The idea was to let her practice jump rope, since the middle school entrance exam depends on it. The requirement is 172 jumps per minute, and right now she can manage a little over 130 in a minute, so she still needs a lot more practice. After she finished, my wife took a turn too and managed around 90 jumps per minute.

Then my daughter urged me to give it a try as well. I did 80 jumps in one minute. While I was jumping, I didn’t really feel anything unusual, but once I stopped, my heart started pounding like crazy. I quickly walked around slowly for a bit, but it still didn’t get better. Then my head began to feel a little dizzy, so I found a place to sit down. It took more than half an hour before I finally recovered. For a brief moment, I even wondered if I was about to jump rope myself to death.

Looks like in the future I’m only fit for Baduanjin and Tai Chi. I should find some time to learn Tai Chi.
