—Yes, on December 12, 2021, one day after our sixth anniversary, I proposed to Six Six.
Getting ready
To surprise Six Six, I deliberately used a company outing as my excuse and naturally slipped out of her sight.
The team-building trip was scheduled to return on the afternoon of December 12, so I told Six Six in advance that I might not be home until evening and asked her to go shopping with her sister. To make sure everything went smoothly, I also contacted her sister and explained the plan, asking her to find a good moment to invite Six Six out.
That left me with the rest of the day.
In reality, the return time on the 12th was almost pushed back because the whole company had to act together and the schedule was uncertain. Luckily, I had already given admin a heads-up, so I was able to leave almost exactly on time. The drive back was smooth too, with barely any traffic. As soon as I got to the company building, I quickly got into a friend’s car and headed straight home.
By then it was 3:30 p.m. on December 12. The proposal was planned for 5:30 p.m., which meant I still had two hours to prepare.
I had thought for a long time about where to propose. In the end, I chose an observation deck that Six Six and I often went to together. To create the atmosphere quickly, I bought some decorations on Taobao and put them in the trunk.
Once everything was almost ready, I set off at around 5:00 p.m.
I never expected that halfway out, I would suddenly shout and scare my friend sitting next to me: I had forgotten the diamond ring?!!!
In a panic, I turned the car around and rushed home to get it. By then, it was already 5:15.
The proposal
While I was going back for the ring, Six Six’s sister told me they were almost there. I hurriedly asked her to keep them occupied for a while, while I rushed to the planned spot first.
But when I checked the map, I saw that the proposal location was completely jammed at that very moment. It was probably because students from the school along that road were heading back at the same time. With no time to spare, I made the temporary decision to change locations, even though that meant the view wouldn’t be as good.
Under those circumstances, I finally parked at the backup spot and waited for Six Six to appear.

“I do.”
